Pitti Uomo’s 110th edition, held in Florence, has once again signaled the commencement of Men’s Fashion Month, drawing international press and buyers. The historic Italian trade fair, a crucial barometer for the fashion industry, presented a dynamic schedule featuring established brands and innovative guest designers. This season, notable highlights included Irish designer Simone Rocha’s inaugural dedicated menswear collection and DSM Kei Ninomiya’s bold, punk-infused presentation.

Navigating the Future

Ivano Cauli, the new CEO of Pitti Immagine, emphasized the fair’s role in guiding the industry through complex global shifts. “Navigating the future: this is the message and the objective guiding the construction of the upcoming cycle of fashion fairs,” Cauli stated. He positioned the physical fair in Florence as a vital compass for dialogue between supply and demand, fostering innovation and creative synergy as the primary engine for growth. Despite challenging global retail conditions, Pitti Uomo continues to attract a high-level international community, underscoring its enduring relevance.

The fair, hosted at the Fortezza da Basso, featured 740 exhibitors from 30 countries. Beyond the main exhibition, a vibrant guest program saw designers like Simone Rocha and DSM Kei Ninomiya present unique collections across the city, often in historically significant venues. Attendees, adapting to soaring June temperatures, largely favored comfort over the traditional “Pitti Peacock” suiting, with oversized tees and relaxed shirts being ubiquitous.

Simone Rocha’s Tender Masculinity

Irish designer Simone Rocha made a significant debut at Pitti Uomo, presenting her first dedicated menswear collection. Previously showcasing menswear through lookbooks or integrated into her women’s wear shows, Rocha expressed that the opportunity to focus solely on menswear allowed for a deeper exploration of detail. “Splitting the collections up rather than showing them together has really changed the way I’ve thought about menswear,” she told Wallpaper*. “It’s been great to give it this undivided attention to detail, because menswear is so much more detail-orientated than womenswear anyway.” The collection explored themes of ‘tender masculinity,’ offering a nuanced perspective on contemporary male attire.

DSM Kei Ninomiya’s Punk Reverie

For its presentation, DSM Kei Ninomiya, the Japanese label led by Rei Kawakubo’s protégé, channeled a distinct punk spirit. Models appeared as brooding punks, albeit softened by the unexpected addition of flower posies in their hair. This juxtaposition offered an intriguing and rebellious take on modern menswear, blending raw energy with delicate details, and standing out within the fair’s diverse offerings.

Brand Highlights and Collaborations

Beyond the guest designers, established names also made their mark. Brunello Cucinelli, a consistent fixture at Pitti Uomo, commenced the fashion month with his traditional sprawling dinner, this season held in the cloisters of the Santa Maria Novella church. His S/S 2027 collection, displayed at the Fortezza da Basso, embraced eclecticism, inspired by Shakespeare’s quote “Thought is Free.” Highlights included vibrant, sun-faded rainbow cable-knit sweaters, achieved through a unique dyeing process involving resin, and sharp tailoring in crisp blue denim.

Margaret Howell announced a collaboration with Dr. Martens, adding another layer of interest to the fair’s program. Palazzo Gucci also marked a new era under the creative direction of Demna, signaling fresh directions for the brand.
