Yinka Ilori’s Vibrant New Collection for Dunelm Celebrates Community and Leicester’s Textile Heritage
British-Nigerian artist and designer Yinka Ilori collaborates with homeware giant Dunelm on a 40-piece collection featuring colourful furniture, textiles, and lighting, inspired by Leicester's diverse communities and textile past.

A new 40-piece homeware collection, born from the collaboration between acclaimed British-Nigerian artist and designer Yinka Ilori MBE and UK homeware retailer Dunelm, has launched, blending Ilori’s characteristic joyful aesthetic with a narrative rooted in community and Leicester’s textile history. The collection, available online and in select stores from July 8, 2026, offers furniture, bedding, lighting, rugs, and soft furnishings, with price points designed for accessibility.
Inspired Beginnings
Ilori, known for his vibrant palettes and geometric patterns, found a personal resonance with Dunelm’s origins as a market stall in Leicester. Having grown up in a working-class environment in North London, where community was a central pillar, he identified similarities with Dunelm’s early days. “What struck me about Dunelm’s beginnings was their love for community,” Ilori stated. “Growing up in a working-class environment, community was everything for my family. There were similarities with this and Dunelm’s beginnings as a market stall – how they sought community.” This shared appreciation for community underpins the collection’s design philosophy.
A Tapestry of Heritage
The collection draws significant inspiration from the diverse communities that influenced Leicester’s textile industry throughout the 20th century. Floral patterns featured in the designs are a nod to national flowers from countries such as India and Pakistan, reflecting the city’s rich tapestry of Asian, African, and Caribbean cultures. This commitment to authenticity extends beyond the designs themselves, with the campaign photography featuring actual Dunelm employees, further grounding the collection in real people and stories.
Standout Pieces
Several items have emerged as particular highlights. The ‘Sweet Flows’ swivel chair (£299) is described by Ilori as an armchair that “instantly makes you want to smile,” with its colourful, pattern-rich design intended to inject joy into home interiors. “Home interiors can be quite serious, so I chose a colourful palette and vibrant pattern that is immediately engaging. It sparks joy and stands on its own as a piece of art. It’s also really comfortable!” he shared.
The ‘Bell LED’ lamp (£65) offers a sense of playful nostalgia, with Ilori noting its “classic and timeless piece that would feel at home in the 70s or 80s,” while also incorporating elements of art deco. Other notable pieces include the ‘Net Floral’ duvet cover set (from £16), which reimagines the traditional British net curtain with floral motifs, and the ‘Gerbera’ cushion (£26), a fusion of crewel wool embroidery and geometric floral patterns. Adding texture and handmade quality, the ‘Kaleidoscope’ floral round rug (from £135) is crafted from 100 per cent wool with a bobbled finish. The ‘Half-Log’ sideboard (£599) introduces a sculptural silhouette in a warm oak finish with chrome legs.
Accessible Design for All
Central to both Ilori’s and Dunelm’s vision for this collaboration is the belief that good design should not be exclusive. “I think it’s important we design objects that are rich in storytelling, that speak to people in different ways and that celebrate unique ideas,” Ilori commented. “I hope this collection brings joy into people’s everyday lives.” The range, from an accessible £9 cotton jacquard hand towel to a £799 king-size boucle ottoman bed, aims to make quality, story-rich design available to a wider audience.
