Taipei Skyline Transformed by 1,000-Drone Light Show for COMPUTEX x InnoVEX
A spectacular drone performance reimagined Taipei's skyline, integrating the COMPUTEX x InnoVEX technology exhibition with urban architecture and digital media.

Taipei’s Xinyi District recently became a dynamic exhibition space as a fleet of 1,000 LED drones took to the night sky, transforming the cityscape into a canvas for the COMPUTEX x InnoVEX technology exhibition. This ambitious aerial performance, staged from June 2nd to June 5th, 2026, extended the reach of the international technology trade fair beyond its physical venue, weaving its themes into the urban fabric.
An Urban Canvas Reimagined
Project Director and Creative Producer Yu-Ying Chen conceived the drone show as an integral part of the 2026 COMPUTEX × InnoVEX exhibition. The performance aimed to reposition the technology fair within the city’s environment, presenting its core concepts through a twelve-minute aerial spectacle. Set against the iconic backdrop of TAIPEI 101, the show utilized the city’s skyline as a temporary exhibition hall, blending aerial choreography with architecture and digital media.
The performance took place between Taipei City Hall Plaza and TAIPEI 101, strategically placing the drone choreography within one of Taipei’s most recognizable urban contexts. Instead of opting for a secluded launch site, the project intentionally integrated the drones into the architectural and visual identity of the Xinyi District. The illuminated TAIPEI 101 served not just as a landmark but as an active participant in the animated formations, reinforcing the connection between the digital performance and the surrounding built environment.
Collaboration and Technical Execution
The realization of this large-scale drone show was a testament to international collaboration. The project was developed through a partnership between Noki Asia Limited in Hong Kong and Taiwan Swarm Innovation Inc. in Taiwan, with Yu-Ying Chen overseeing the creative direction and conceptual framework. Noki Asia was responsible for translating the visual concepts into complex two- and three-dimensional drone formations, designing flight paths, and developing animation sequences. Taiwan Swarm Innovation then adapted this choreography for their flight systems, ensuring technical feasibility and managing the operation of the 1,000 LED drones during the live event.
Executing such a complex performance in a dense urban center presented significant challenges. The production required meticulous coordination among creative, engineering, and regulatory teams. Key hurdles included navigating aviation restrictions, mitigating electromagnetic interference within the bustling city, and managing the operational demands of a large drone fleet in a central urban area.
Visualizing Technology and Urban Themes
The drone formations were meticulously designed as three-dimensional spatial compositions, moving beyond simple animated images. Over the twelve-minute duration, the drones visualized key themes central to Taiwan’s identity in the global technology landscape, including its semiconductor industry, advancements in artificial intelligence, and broader technological development. The sequences transitioned fluidly between abstract geometric forms, microscopic lattice structures, and more recognizable figurative shapes. One particularly striking segment featured a robotic figure interacting with the silhouette of TAIPEI 101, symbolically merging the digital performance with the architectural landmark and emphasizing the interplay between technology and public space.
A Sustainable Spectacle
The project also positioned drones as a novel medium for temporary public art, introducing what was described as ‘Digital Fireworks.’ This approach offered a zero-emission and reusable alternative to traditional pyrotechnics for large civic events. The installation’s ephemeral nature, existing solely through light, movement, and synchronized flight, highlighted how aerial technologies can create temporary urban experiences with a reduced environmental impact compared to conventional celebrations. The widespread circulation of the drone show across international news, television, and digital media platforms amplified its reach, underscoring the growing role of large-scale aerial performances in contemporary exhibition design.
