Radian Launches EXR Electric Enduro Motorcycle with Rapid Battery Swapping
Dutch startup Radian introduces the EXR, an electric enduro motorcycle featuring a revolutionary battery-swapping system that allows for changes in under 30 seconds, aiming to compete with traditional combustion-powered bikes.

Dutch startup Radian has unveiled its first production motorcycle, the EXR, an electric enduro bike engineered to challenge combustion-powered racing platforms. Developed over three years by a team with roots in electric superbike racing, the EXR distinguishes itself with a patent-pending battery-swapping system that enables riders to replace depleted battery packs in less than 30 seconds, entirely without tools. This innovation aims to significantly reduce downtime during competitions and recreational rides.
The EXR is slated for launch in select European markets starting in the fourth quarter of 2027, catering to both competitive racers and recreational riders.
Modular Battery System
At the heart of the EXR’s design is Radian’s curved InfiniPack battery system. This modular system is not only designed for swift, ergonomic battery swapping but also contributes to the motorcycle’s overall structural integrity. The removable battery pack slides out through a natural rotational motion, allowing riders to quickly swap batteries trackside. This design also ensures that the electric drivetrain’s rotating mass remains centered and low within the chassis, contributing to balanced handling.
The production model will initially feature an 8.6 kWh Endurance battery, offering a claimed range of 60 to 115 kilometers at race pace, or up to seven hours of riding depending on terrain and intensity. Radian also plans to release a lighter 5.8 kWh Sprint pack in the future, which will reduce the motorcycle’s overall weight from 125 kilograms to 113 kilograms.
Performance and Drivetrain
The EXR’s drivetrain is powered by a 336-volt electric motor, coupled with a carbon-sleeved rotor and proprietary inverter technology. This setup delivers an immediate 1060 Nm of torque directly to the rear wheel from a standstill. The system operates continuously up to 14,000 RPM without the need for a conventional gearbox, allowing riders to navigate challenging technical terrain without shifting gears.
Through an accompanying mobile application, riders can customize throttle response and power delivery profiles to suit their riding style. Options range from enhanced low-end torque for demanding enduro sections to smoother top-end performance for sand riding and high-speed tracks.
Integrated Storage and Chassis Design
Radian has integrated a modular Smart Storage system directly into the aluminum subframe of the motorcycle. This feature aims to eliminate the need for riders to carry backpacks during rides, offering dedicated compartments for tools, spare parts, chargers, or custom inserts developed through downloadable 3D-printable files provided by the company.
The aluminum chassis itself functions as a thermal interface, utilizing the metal’s conductive properties to effectively regulate drivetrain temperatures during intense racing conditions.
Aesthetic and Components
The EXR adopts a stripped-back, industrial aesthetic, characterized by exposed fasteners, ribbed bodywork, and flowing surfaces. The front LED Radian Vision headlight features an animated lighting signature that also serves as a charging status indicator. The cockpit integrates a minimalist enduro timekeeping system designed to minimize distractions during competition.
The motorcycle is equipped with premium components, including KYB suspension and Brembo brakes. A limited Founders Edition will offer additional upgrades, such as Haan wheels with Excel A60 rims.
Background and Future Outlook
Founded in 2021 in the Dutch region of Twente, Radian leverages experience gained from Electric Superbike Twente, a student-led racing initiative that achieved victory in the 2018 MotoE championship. The company continues to collaborate with institutions like the University of Twente and Fraunhofer Innovation Platform for Advanced Manufacturing as it develops future electric off-road platforms, including motocross and supermoto categories.
