Born in Pakistan in 1941, Yasmeen Lari pursued her architectural education in the UK before returning to Karachi at age 23 to establish Lari Associates with her husband, Suhail Zaheer Lari. Concurrently, her deep engagement with Pakistan's historic towns and traditional earthen construction methods led to the founding of the Heritage Foundation of Pakistan in 1980.
